Day 1: Exploring Kyoto

We were all still tired from the day of travelling. Today, daddy and I headed to Family Mart to pick up some breakfast. Then we spotted this bakery which was just on the road perpendicular to our home. Stopped by and were amazing to find amazing bakes in this one-man-show bakery. We picked more from here and headed home. Ashley Kor-kor who had already gone out for one round said they saw a long queue of customers at the bakery.
Many were already sold out

We tried to get the washing machine to work, it was playing up and despite the home owner putting up instructions in English, it took us a bit of time with Google Translate and to Google search the model of washing machine and it worked.
Off we went today, just the 5 of us as Uncle Dennis had a course/exam to attend for the day. First stop was the Ninja & Samurai Museum at Teramachi.
It took us a while to find the location. Expected it to be a building on its own. Turned out to be upstairs in Teramachi.

The tour was a fun tour with the guide explaining about Japan history, about the different hierarchy of the people and we got up close with the samurai katana and armor.
This was the gun used. We got to hold it too:
The final part of the tour was the "Ninja Experience" where we got to throw the plastic Shuriken.
After a few practice session, 3 in our group were shortlisted. Mei-mei was one of them! Too bad another kid had a more accurate hit than yours.
We also got to dress up and these were the photos we took:

Then we were hungry for lunch as it was nearly 3pm. We were at loss of what to eat. In the end, daddy found this ramen joint, Ramen Muraji. It was affordable and delicious. A little different from our usual as the broth is thicker and with a much stronger taste:

We didn't have much planned for the rest of the day, so we wandered around and came to Pontocho Alley. It was filled with many little eateries and small alleyways.

Then we walked home. It sure was a long walk!! We rested at home while waiting for Uncle Dennis to finish up his course. Then was the next question on where to go for dinner. We finally settled on a sushi restaurant. We walked and walked and finally found the place, only to be turned away as they could not fit all 6 of us. Then we walked and walked to the road along the Kamo River. A lot of the shops were full and we finally found this Izakaya called Eiji. Tables were only for 2, so we took up 2 tables and Ashley Kor-kor and Uncle Dennis sat at the counter.
