Day 2: Kinkakuji and Nijo Castle

The plan was to leave early, but again, by the time we got up and got ready, it was past 9am. Headed to the bus stop nearby and soon were on our way to Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion. Daddy was the "banker" for this trip and soon after buying the tickets, we headed inside.

Our entrance ticket
Just a short walk from the entrance, then we saw it.. the amazing sight of the Golden Pavilion. What a sight to behold!
Everyone stopped to take many photos. Lucky for us, the crowd didn't seem to be as much as what we had been seeing on social media leading up to our trip. See.. we could take a family photo without being photobombed!!
My kiddies with the Pavilion:

We walked a little more and came up to this other side:
And further into the gardens, another photo with it waaaaayyy back there...
We enjoyed the scenery, finding ponds where people threw coins to make a wish, we also did that. Bought some souvenirs at the booths along the way, then we spotted this tea house where we could rest a little and be served matcha and a sweet dessert, while enjoying the red  leaves on the Japanese maple trees:
We each had one set
There is gold leaf as well as the imprint of Kinkakuji
Next stop is Nijo Castle. It started drizzling as we approached the castle. Entrance tickets were a little more expensive, but it was well worth it.
My ticket with the Higashi Ote-mon Gate (East Gate) in the background
A short walk inside and we were greeted by the Kara-mon Gate.
We braved the drizzle to take many photos at this gate. Then we headed into the Ninomaru-goten Palace (we bought the extra tickets). Too bad we were not allowed to take photos inside. There were many many rooms inside for the Shogun's visitors. It was a very large palace. We came out to the beautiful sun and walked around the gardens:
Outside of the palace
Then we walked into the Honmaru East bridge where to Mei-mei's delight saw ducks and fishes in the moat. Better yet, there were food being sold to be fed to them.

We discovered this keep tower in the Honmaru Garden. Climbed up to see the view.. wow!
We spotted this palace on our way out and thought that we could go in too. Turned out, we needed another ticket to get into the Honmaru-gotten Palace. Oh well, we're hungry too. So found our way back out of the palace ground.
Daddy found this ramen shop nearby called Ramen Fukuchian. Made a short walk and waited a little for a table to be available for 6 of us. We ordered our food over the machine. And soon we were served the most amazing ramen (thus far in the trip):
Gyoza too!
As we didn't have much left to do, we headed back to the city. Hopped onto a bus and we were soon at another entrance into Teramachi.
Soon it was dinnertime. We decided to go to Genkaidon, since we're in the vicinity. Food was affordable as mentioned in the social medias, but truth be said, the slices of fish were rather thin.. ah all.. it was still an enjoyable meal.
I ordered a "dish of the day (zuke don)" which turned out to be the boiled white eel
Evan's "Take bowl"
Daddy's "Ume bowl"
Evelyn's "salmon and roe bowl"
Headed home after a quick stop at a nearby Liquor Mountain. After a shower and all, our two heroes decided to head to Family Mart to get supper.. in shorts!!
And supper and drinks is served:
The famed "famichiki"
