While daddy is away

On Monday night, daddy was saying his goodbye to Mei-mei as he'd be leaving very early in the morning. Immediately you got ready to give daddy the guilt trip. 

I could see you making a sad face, turning your lips downwards and about to start on how much you'd miss him. Luckily (for daddy) you glanced my direction just before your started, and I gave you a warning look. Immediately you stopped and happily hugged daddy goodbye and goodnight before hopping into your bed to sleep.

Poor daddy. He works so hard and when he gets to go off on a holiday by himself, he carries guilt with him. Bad enough that he himself feels guilty, he doesn't need you making it harder for him!

As for the both of you, the morning preparation is not too bad. Mei-mei gets a 1 minute snooze. I'll wake you up and then set the timer for 1 minute (plus) and Ko-ko has been good to set his own alarm at 6am and to get up when it rings. 

The only time he didn't wake up was on Tuesday when I had set the timer, and someone hit the snooze button. I had to run up to check on my sleepy boy. I guess you were tired from accompanying me to the airport. When I went into the room and 5.50am, you told me "I didn't fall asleep yet". 

Obviously, he won't be coming back empty handed. Look out for it when he comes back tomorrow.

He will also be surprised when he comes back too. You have a surprise planned for him too.

Weekend Chores

Weekends means that the both of you have the task to wipe the dining table after we've had lunch. Saturday being Evelyn's turn and Sunday is Evan's turn. 

Today, Ko-ko (as usual) could not eat his lunch so early. So we finished lunch before he started on his. So Mei-mei quickly wiped the table and left this message for him:

Overdue Inoculation

This time, it's Ko-ko's turn to have his inoculation. Ah Kong and I picked you up from school as daddy had a last minute meeting which he needed to attend in the office.
Some of the inoculations you needed were overdue. For the flu jab, you had missed the booster so you'd have to take two again. As Dr. Mary stressed a lot on the importance of having the flu jab to avoid having lower immune system after a flue which could lead to getting the Covid virus, this was one of the 2 injections you had. The other was Hepatitis A and B (combined). 
And of course you had to be cheeky with her. 
Dr Mary: Wow! Such a big boy. I bet you have a moustache now.
Evan: Yes, that's why I need to wear a mask.

Before the injection:
Evan: Would it be painful? Such a big needle? Do I get an injection on my thigh?
And this resulted in the need for the nurse to hold you... just in case... 

It was obviously the tiniest needle and my big muscle man did not feel anything. We had a good laugh as you got to get two cute plasters as we had discussed the night before during dinner.

It's a Promise

A promise? Yup, that's what you told me last night when I tried to get you to sleep. Sigh.. it was already almost 11pm, waaay past your bedtime. But you seemed to be full of energy. And when you discovered the paper that I'd printed for you with patterns to trace, you came into the room and asked me to accompany you to the living room to watch you draw.
As we were walking out, you told me "I promise you we sleep" (after drawing). Couldn't help laughing that you knew to use the word "promise" and in the correct context too! Yup, our little negotiator is on the roll.
In fact daddy and I had a good laugh about your negotiating skills. We usually snack a little when we come home from work and you'd also join us. Not wanting to spoil your appetite, we'd try to give you less. This is what happens:
Daddy: You take only 1 will do, ok?
Evan: 3? (showing 3 fingers)
Daddy: No, one.
Evan: 2, ok? (showing 2 fingers)
So who wins in the end? Obviously you get more than what was negotiated. But one thing I've noticed is that you are very honest. If I give you more than promised, you'd look surprise that we gave you more. Of course, if it were to be less than the promised amount, you'd make sure you get the numbers that we'd agreed on!

Tricked You

That's what you told me yesterday. Well, it sounded more like "I twiked you". And why did you tell me this? Because we were all ready to go to bed when you told me that you needed to wee wee (despite already wearing diapers). And of course you insisted that you needed to wee wee in the toilet (sign of successful potty training?).
Asked you to get daddy to help you with undressing and turning on the bathroom lights, but you insisted "Only mummy". You sat and sat on the toilet and nothing came out. Obviously, since you'd just wee weed 15 minutes ago... And after giving you a smack on your bottom, you laughed and told me "I twiked you.. hahha".
How do we get angry when you can tell me such a thing?

Naughty boy...

There are times when you refuse to do as you are told. And Monday was one of those times. What did you do? Well, there was only 3 of us at home: you, Ah Kong and mummy. We were playing and trying to fix the Thomas & Friends Mega Playset when we noticed that Ah Kong had dozed off while watching the news.
So mummy told you to be quiet and not wake up Ah Kong. Of course a request NOT to do something will not be met. So you walked to Ah Kong and touched and called him "Ah Kong" just to wake him up. Sigh.. Ah Kong woke up and we laughed about your cheekiness.
We continued with your game when we noticed that Ah Kong had dozed off again. Must have been a busy day. Of course you had to wake him up again. This time, it was with an "AH KONG!!!!!" and you stood really closed to him when you said that. Poor Ah Kong.. he nearly jumped right out of his skin when you shouted at him.
I wonder if reverse psychology will work: by telling you to wake Ah Kong up?

Bath time



One thing about you that puzzles me is whether you like taking your baths or not? I still cannot figure it out. Why do I ask this question? Well when it comes to bath time, you'll tell me "it's not time yet" or "I'm not smelly" or "No.. I dowan to bathe". You've got loads of excuses. Of course there is the occasional time when you willingly come with me to the room to get ready for your bath. When you were younger you'd happily get your bath with a "Eeww.. you need a bathe 'cause your smelly!". Sadly, it doesn't work anymore.

Of course you still have more excuses. We need to count: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 (yup, you finally got your sequence correct). And nope that's not the end of your excuses. You want to cuddle with mummy for a while first. And finally you'll get into the bathtub (after a lot of "persuasion" from mummy).

Then all goes well with the bathing process. Wash, shampoo, soap. Ah.. then trouble starts again. When I turn on the water to wash off the soap I get a "NoOooo.. I'm not ready yet". And you'll proceed to wash my bathtub, arrange all the soaps and shampoos on the bathtub. And when I finally get to turn on the shower, you'll get upset when I try to wash off the shampoo. You really dislike the water getting onto your face. So I try to be very careful. Yet, you'll make a lot of noise as if I had washed your face with the shower!

At long last, you're clean. But now you REFUSE to get out of the bathtub! Sigh.. after more persuasion we're finally done with the bath. And it's already 11am!

How does it go for daddy? You'll usually say "No, not daddy. Only mummy". But when he bathes you... you're as good as good can be. No complaining or delay tactics! So unfair.

Mummy...

It's funny how you have evolved from calling me Ma-ma to mummy and now you have decided to call me something else. What is it? "Mum" plain and simple. And you do it intentionally (you give me your cheeky grin when you say it). Where did you pick that up? I'm not sure. I call Nanna "mum" but it's been a while since we went back to BM. Is it possible that you learnt it from me then and only put it to use this weekend?
Actually somedays you'll call me "mummy" and others when you are in the "mood" you'd call me "mum". Hhmm... I heard you calling Ah Ma "ma-ma" also. What's next?

Nah...

You used to give me things by saying "Nah..." I tried to teach you some manners.. How to rephrase "Nah" when giving something to someone? Put some thought into it.. and what came to mind was "Here you go".

So after a few times of saying "No Evan, don't say nah. Say here you go" and you finally got it. So nowdays, I'm proud to say that you will be nice and polite and tell me "Here you go, mummy".

You're so polite that even when you dig for "gold" (especially since you were down with a cold and kept getting dirty nose), you gave it to me and said "Here you go, mummy".

Sigh.. what to do? How do I reject something yucky given to me, but put in such a nice manner...

Exercise after dinner...

Daddy was not home yesterday night for dinner, as he had to entertain his visitor. So here you are after your dinner, exercising.. and since you were exercising, we (Ah Kong, Ah Ma and mummy) had to take turns to follow you around. So we also got our share of exercise.

And how do you exercise? By pushing your little jeep that you used to be afraid of all over the house. And because you like to harass poor Furbie who just lies around, minding his poor business. We have to follow you around and watch you closely. Otherwise, you will try to roll over Furbie. And poor Furbie is just recovering from his ear infection!

I tried to take a picture of you pushing your little jeep, but you kept coming towards mummy. So this was the best shot I could get of you as you moved towards me and I moved backwards to get you into the frame! Wow.. it's getting more difficult to take pictures of you as you seem very interested in the camera all the time!

After that, you decided that it was time to go upstairs and quickly gave Ah Kong and Ah Ma their customray kisses and hugs. Then you got sidetracked by the TV and stood a while watching TV. When you remembered it was time to go up you gave another round of kisses and hugs. Wow.. 2 rounds. Poor daddy missed your kisses last night as he only came back when you were sleeping. Did you give him a kiss this morning?

Drive us crazy!

Let me count the things you do that makes daddy and mummy go crazy:

-My superglue: I think ever since you got sick, you've been stuck to me like glue. But only when you see me. Just like this morning, when mummy wanted to go to work, you made a lot of noise when I passed you to daddy. But after a while you calmed down (and had probably forgotten about mummy already!)

-You wake up in a good mood most of the time: Mummy got out of the bathroom this morning and was greeted with the biggest, sweetest grin from you. To top it off, you gave me a big juicy kiss when I asked for it. And when I asked you to kiss daddy, you gave his a whack on his head.. hahaha... you must be trying to wake up your sleepy head daddy.

-You are the first person we love to see when we reach home after a long, tiring day at work: Ah Ma or Kakak will bring you to the top of stairs and we will always get to see your smiling face. Of course, Furbie stands in front you you to greet us too.. with his toy.

-Our little angel: Angel mostly when you are asleep. When you are awake, you can be very demanding, telling us where you would like to go (in the house) and which toy you would like to play with. But we all love playing with you, exhausting as it may be...

-Yes or No: You can tell us what you want. When people want to carry you, you will tell him no by shaking your head. Last week, when daddy's golf "kaki" asked you to give him a "high-5" you told him no! Haha.. And if you want something, you will nod your head.. along with your whole body shaking in agreement too.

-You need more milk for your feeds: Yup, Ah Ma said your appetite is back, and you are wanting more. Now mummy has to prepare 6oz feeds. Sigh.. I guess it's almost time to reduce my breastfeeding and introduce formula milk, as I don't think I can cope with the demands. Boy, would I miss those times we spend together when you are feeding.

- Harass poor Furbie: You're lucky that Furbie is nice to you and lets you get away with harassing him, such as kicking him and stepping on him. In fact you sometimes yell at him when he's too noisy too. But we worry that one day Furbie might bite you back. Sigh.. But I better warn you to stay away from Nanna's (crazy) dog, Chelsea. She's not as nice as Furbie!

- Our bed mate: You seem to have decided that you prefer to sleep on our bed. Every night after you sleep for 3-4 hours, you will decide that you prefer our bed and so after the feed, you will join us in our little queen size bed!

You do so many cute and funny things that make us go crazy, but we love you loads and wouldn't want you to change. Our dear little Evan, you are perfect just the way you are..

Happy Anniversary to daddy and mummy!!

It's our 3rd anniversary today. Nope, no special plans. We decided to postpone to Saturday as Ah Kong and Ah Ma have a wedding dinner to attend then. So we will go out for a special dinner, just the three of us.

Today was an eventful day. On top of it being our anniversary (and Aunty Joanne's birthday: Happy Birthday, Joanne) many things happened today. Read on:
1. No water:
Ah Ma gave you "strict" instructions to wake up earlier as there was an expected water cut starting at 8.30am. Of course you were good and woke up as instructed at 7.15am. Even before mummy was ready to wake up. So you waited patiently while mummy got ready (for 10 minutes, then you started making noise!), then we both went down for breakfast while daddy got ready to go to work. So you managed to have your bath before the water was cut.

2. Head got stuck
If you are wondering what is in the picture above, this is the disaster area where you got your head stuck. Ah Ma called mummy to tell me that you got your head stuck in between the railings while playing this morning, I could still hear you crying at the top of your voice. It seems that you put your head through the railings, then slid downwards where it is narrower and so your head could not get out. You calmed down after a while and Ah Ma called mummy again and mummy tried to talk to you. Poor thing, you were still sobbing then. We came home during lunch time to see you, but you were sleeping.
Ah Ma said that this incident scared you a bit. So you were a bit manja throughout the day.

3. Still have the flu
You screamed at daddy several times as he tried to suck out the mucus from your nose using the suction thingy. Poor little guy. I hope you get well soon. Your appetite wasn't so good today, during lunch and also dinner time.

4. Insect bite
You had one bite on your face that thankfully looks better today, but yesterday you got another on your left foot and today, mummy found one more on your right hand and another on your left arm. I think you need to wear long sleeved shirts in the evenings as advised by Dr Mary earlier on. Looks like it's mosquito season again.

Thankfully after such an eventful day, you seemed perfectly fine in the evening. You even helped mummy take the picture of the "disaster area".

We haven't taken much pictures of you lately. So while you were playing with daddy, we managed to get this cheeky picture of you wearing the beanie that Seh Ku got you a long time ago. It was a full moon gift from him.

You kept wanting to pull away the beanie the moment daddy puts it on your head. But we managed to get this picture of you posing with the impish grin before you pulled the beanie away.

Clapping..

You love to clap. And when Ah Ma opened this musical book, you got all excited and were clapping way. Daddy and mummy had to dash out to the convenience store nearby to buy the batteries for the book, as Ah Ma said you were disappointed that there was no music coming from the book.
