Changing Car Tyre

We came home to you telling us: I changed a car tyre today.

Sounded so nonchalant when you said that to us. Then we later found out that it was a challenging event: from trying to change the spare tyre, to having a flat spare, driving to the petrol station and unable to pump the spare tyre.

A very long 2.5 hours.

Ah well, now you know how to change a car tyre.

Evelyn's First Attempt

Today, we decided to have home cooked food instead of buying lunch after piano classes. So we asked Kakak to steam up the potatoes which daddy and I had bought earlier ready for us when we come back.
I had also defrosted some sausages, so while I fried up the sausages, you prepared the mashed potatoes..
Well, you seemed to be able to follow instructions and made a rather tasty batch of mashed potatoes. Good job!!

First Period

I know that quite a number of your friends have already had it. So I had prepared a little "bag" with the essentials for you. Well I think that was a year ago.

Today (while I was peeing! I cannot even pee in peace!), you told me that it is period. You had told me your panties stained yesterday and that you'd probably had scratched yourself on the bum.

Ah well.. so I told you to wash up (it was after karate classes), and put on the pad. After you had showered, you came back to my room to say that you'd forgotten how to put the sanitary napkin ok. OK, no problem there.

So you have finally started on your periods. I searched for a suitable period tracker for you to track on the phone on your own.

Primary Awards Day

For a couple of months leading to the Awards Day, you have been very busy. You had auditioned for a role in the play and got selected to play the part of Bethany.
Today we finally get to watch the play. But before that, we had to book tickets, submit our Covid test results and then we're all ready to go.
Daddy and I were among the earliest to enter the MPH, so we got seats very close to the stage; just as you had asked us to because you said that the microphones would sometimes not work.
They started the event with award presentation. And at long last you also came up to collect your certificate. I wondered why you seems abit uneasy, until I realised that the "scar" which was part of your role was already plastered on your face.
Then,  it was time for the performance. Everyone acted out superbly. The storyline was interesting and it included singing and dancing by students of all years.
Bethany the Ballerina with a scar
You were also part of the dance crew for the song
And then there was the curtain call:
And after the guests had exited the hall, all the cast went back on stage for another photo together.
You have done well in your first ever stage acting. Great job, kiddo!❤

Swimming Lessons

It rained heavily today and we thought that the lesson would need to be cancelled. But at around 4pm, it started to get sunny, so we went ahead with the plans for your first lesson.

We'd dropped daddy off at Auto Bavaria before heading to the Sports Club. Got ourselves registered then headed to get ready for the pool.

As Uncle Adrian wasn't there yet, you played in the kiddy pool until he came. First lesson was about breathing underwater. Uncle Adrian explained to you about breathing underwater.

His comment: She's so afraid of the water... even worst than her Ko-ko
He'd teach you and then left you for a while as he coached another 2 children. While he was away, the 3 of us (Ah Kong, Ko-ko and I) tried to help you overcome the fear.
After a while you had more confidence to put your nose into the water. And this was what you were doing before lessons ended for the day:
Good job, kiddo!!
As for Ko-ko he swam a little, but also got tired. Haven't swam for too long!

We had to round by a coffee shop to pick up dinner before heading home. Mei-mei was hungry and luckily there was a stall selling friend chicken skin which you both ate on the way home.

Need for a Shave

Well, your "whiskers" have been growing and although they are fine hairs, it is very visible. So after much thought (on your end) and persuasion (from daddy's end), you agreed to shave.

We bought the shaver on Friday when we stopped by Gurney Paragon for groceries and some toiletries.

Today is D-Day:

Daddy giving instructions on how to shave (and not cut yourself)
As I put the tag to this post.... I get a funny feeling. "First".. you are 16 and yet there are many more firsts for you to experience as you grow up.

Getting Her Ears Pierced

At long last, we managed to make it to Queensbay for you to have your ears pierced. You had asked for it before MCO, then we didn't really want to bring you out. And with the many lock downs, it just kept getting postponed.

Daddy was worried that you would be afraid. But you said confidently that after having suffered those puss filled boils, you have no fear of pain.

So early today, we headed to Queensbay and headed straight to the jewelry shop. The first shop we went to said they only had a person to do it. Meaning that you will have one side pierced, then the other. You said that you'd prefer to have them done together. So we headed to another shop.

After confirming that they have two people to do it, you picked the earrings and then sat down to have them done:

All cheerful
The lady marked the spot to be pierced
They asked that you unhooked your face mask, and just hold it to your face:
And the deed was over in less than 10 seconds!
We headed upstairs to have ramen for lunch. Took this picture of you with your earrings.
We asked you several times, whether it hurt when your ears were pierced. You said you tried to to scream by biting your tongue. Haha.. our brave little girl.

Yay! Now Everyone Can Ride!

Haha... yes! Although I am the last to achieve it, I am finally able to ride the bicycle.. yeah, yeah at the old age of 42. But.. better late than never *big grin*

And of course, the little girl was like a boss to me, telling me how to cycle and what to do and what not to do. We had tried a few times in the car porch and today, daddy decided we'd try out in the field after we'd gone for a walk/cycle around the housing area.

So first, I tried peddling using Evelyn's little bike and it worked. Daddy asked if I'd like to try cycling on Ko-ko's bike. I was hesitant as it was very high, I had to tiptoe when the bicycle was stationary. But in the end gave in and yay! I made it. I can cycle.

Mei-mei and I had a very good teacher.

Haircut Day at Mummy Barber

Today the Prime Minister announced that the CMCO will be extended another 4 weeks. So it's time to whip out the clippers I had bought a couple of weeks ago.
Before I started, I even looked at some You Tube videos to get some tips. It's a bit scary as it would be my first time cutting hair, other than trimming the fringe for both you (a long time ago) and Mei-mei (quite recently).
Before we started, daddy and I covered our bathroom floor with newspapers so that we would just need to pick them up with the hair and throw them all away. Then as we did not have a cape, we cut holes in a large garbage bag for the head and arms. Ta-da.. we're all ready to start.
It took longer for daddy as we were not sure on how short the cut could be based on the numbers on the clippers. So we had to do it several times before getting the right length (to cut off his curls!!).
Then I walked to your room to ask if you wanted to have a cut too. You told me that you'd have a look at daddy's cut before letting me know (soi chai!!). Well either it looked OK, or you were desperate for a cut (you have been complaining for a while) so we gave you a cut too. Only yours seems faster probably because your hair is stiff and straight. But I also had to trim the tops using a scissors.
Not too bad for a first time. But looks like I missed a few spots. Will need to trim again.. probably next weekend.

Evelyn's First Ballet Lesson

As you have been requesting to attend ballet lessons for so long, we finally decided to stop by the school recommended by my friend for a trial on our way back from dropping Ko-ko to school for Wushu. To our surprise, there was classes to be held in the next 1 hour. So we happily agreed to try and went home to pick up stockings for you. And here you are.. I got to snap a few pictures as they allowed me to enter the class as it was your trial class.

Yup.. we signed up immediately after the trial classes. Wanted to buy the ballet shoes for you, but they did not have your size. So have to wait.

Diaper Free

Another good thing abput school was Miss Beh also helped to potty train you. As you were not fully trained when we went to US, I still put you on diapers mainly as we had to travel in the car for long stretches and you were still jet lagged.
But when we got back I totally kept you away from all diapers in the day and even during afternoon nap times. You are really cheeky where it is sometimes impossible to get you to wee wee and then you'd suddenly have to go immediately.
Till now you have been quite good except for yesterday when you did not give me sufficient notice and peed before I could help pull down your pants.
Still,  keep up the good work. We're proud of you.
You're now left with the nights which we'll wait and see for the right time.

Evelyn's 1st Visit to the Market

Today was the replacement class for Ko-ko. As I was already awake and daddu had a very late night, I decided to follow Ah Ma to the market.  It's a very good time to visit the market because it's the final weekend before Chinese New Year.  So the market was crowded with many people selling things.
You were very interested in the colorful things being sold. Then we followed Ah Ma to buy fish. Took this picture of you watching the man remove the fish scales:

We went to many places to run some errands and so you fell asleep by the time we got home.

Evelyn Makes Everyone's Day

On our way home from dinner tonight you were playing peek-a-boo with daddy when he asked you to call him and you repeated what he asked you to say: Da-da.
Next Ko-ko asked you to repeat after him:
Evan: Say "Ma-ma"
Evelyn: Ma-ma
*big grin on my face*

Evan: Say "Ah Ma"
Evelyn: Ma

Evan: Say "Ah Kong"
Evelyn: Kong Kong

Evan: Say "Ko-ko"
Evelyn: Ko ko ko ko ko

So everyone's happy as you decided to call us all. Ko-ko is especially happy. He says you called him so many times which means you love him the most.

First Shoes for Evelyn

As you seem to start to walk already we decided to buy you a pair of shoes. We'd gone to Queensbay Mall for dinner and were heading to Harvey Norman to meet Ah Kong and Ah Ma when we remembered about getting you a pair of shoes.
It was easier to pick one with you around as we'd get the correct size. So in we went and picked a cute little pair or shoes.  After that, daddy held your hands to walk and you were very happy to walk un your new shoes. Awwww.... our little girl grows up so quickly....

Evan Can Cycle

It's amazing that after practicing a few rimes with Ah Kong, you can now ride the bicycle on two wheels. Before this Ah Kong had tried to teach you but you were afraid and could not do it. Then a few months later, you could just do it.
And with this newly acquired skill you wanted to go cycling all the time. We're very lucky to have such a big field across the road from our house.
One day daddy took you cycling and you took the corner too quickly and fell down. Daddy said you yelled "OWWWWWW!!!" really loudly as you fell but got up and continued cycling. The fall even damaged you bicycle bell!
And so this is the bungalow you got from the fall:

Evelyn's First Steps

Ah Ma had mentioned a few times that you have started to take a few steps this week.  We've never had the opportunity to see you in action.
But today, you decided to show us what you can do. Daddy was eating breakfast and you were playing with Kakak. Then he turned as Kakak called out to see you take a few steps.
Then later as you played with Ko-ko's train set and mummy was arm wrestling with Ko-ko,  I saw you stand up and take a few steps.
One thing about you is that you are not interested to show off your new skill. So we try to encourage you to walk but you wouldn't.  You'll walk only when you want to... otherwise, you will crawl everywhere at top speed.

Evelyn Goes Swimming

As we were going to stay in the condo over the weekend and Ko-ko is finally cleared to go swimming,  we decided to let you try out the pool too.
As daddy was very afraid that you might.. er... have an 'accident' in the pool, we went to Mothercare to pick up some swimwear along with some swim diapers. And also some swimming trunks for Ko-ko as his were too tight. Then we bought you a float too.
Did a little shopping and it was time to head to the condo. Ah Kong and Ah Ma has arrived earlier and had already cleaned up the place.
Shortly after that we all got ready to go swimming.  Floats were inflated and ready. Went to the pool and realised that I forgot Ko-ko's mew water gun. So I headed back to pick it up.  Went back to the pool to find Ko-ko's new float was too small. Had to make another trip back to pick up the giant turtle float.
By the time I reached the pool for the 3rd time. Daddy had already put you in the pool and you weren't too happy about it. You didn't like the float and quickly cling to me the moment I got into the water.
After a while you did not stick so closely to me and even happily splashed water. You even kicked a little as I held you. Daddy blowed bubbles under you, but you didn't seem impressed.
Soon it was time for you to go back. While Ko-ko continued and even had fun in the jacuzzi you had your bath then took a nap.
Here's a picture of you all dressed for your swimming session:

Evelyn and Fish

The next week after you jab your blood test was Ko-ko's turn to see Dr. Mary for a follow up. As Ah Ma was busy that night, we brought you along.
When you realised we were in the hospital you weren't too happy. But then... maybe you were just tired so being a little cranky.
It was a rather long wait that night for our turn. When it was finally Ko-ko's turn, you had already fallen asleep in daddy's arms. After Dr. Mary had finished checking Ko-ko,  she asked if you were doing OK.
We mentioned that you were not sleeping long hours at night.  She asked what you were eating. When she found out that you were still on rice cereal, she advised that we put you on moi-moi as rice cereal digests very quickly which was why you woke up so often. OoooooOoo...
So that weekend we decided to start you on porridge with just veggies. You did not like it. Tried again on Sunday but did not work. Could not convince you to like it.
We then decided to give you fish as Dr. Mary said you could start with fish at 10 months. So at 1 day shy of your 10th month birthday Ah Ma introduced fish to you.
While you love Ah Kong's fishes which swim in the pond, you did not like them in you porridge!!
We continued to try to feed you. I even asked Dr. Mary on what could be done
She had suggested we give you soft rice, but we still wanted to try with the porridge.  And yesterday we finally convinced you that it was yummy to eat fish moi-moi. You started to take more and more and today I am proud to say you almost finished all that kakak cooked for you.
Good job, our little girl. I hope you'll love eating fish as much as your Ko-ko.  Muakkss.
