Labour Day Long Weekend

This weekend was a weekend of food.

As Friday was 1st May, i.e. Labour Day. We had the day off, so we decided to have steamboat at home. It has been hot days, but we were just craving for steamboat, so we proceeded to have it at home.. in the air-cond comfort, so we did not feel too hot at home:

On Saturday, Ko-ko had gone to work while Kakak had the day off. After music classes, Ah Ma dropped us at Queensbay Mall. We had some things to buy, then we had lunch together at Robataya Izakaya. We had a simple meal of Garlic Chahan and this inoki wrapped in bacon:
Daddy picked us up when he was done with his golf and lunch then we headed home to rest a litttle.
Dinner was a simple carbonara. We decided to cook at home instead of going out, so that Kakak would not need to rush back to ensure we can arrive on time for our dinner if we were to dine out:
And so this was our yummylicious Labour Day weekend.

Still Have Them

Yup, would you believe it, it's April and we still have the Seung Wan Yuen which was made during Chinese New Year.

Well.. this is the last of them. Of course, we can easily make them at home. So much work, but I don't mind making them as Ah Kong, daddy and Kakak enjoys them.

Goodbye, Ocean Green

There was news all over the internet that our favourite seafood restaurant, Ocean Green was closing at the end of the month. Ah Ma tried to book for last weekend, but could not get a booking as everyone was also with the same idea of having a last hurrah at their favourite restaurant. We managed to get a table for the following Saturday.

So today, we headed to the restaurant. Daddy got the last car park slot in the compound of the restaurant.. well more like right at the entrance into the service road leading to the restaurant. The carpark was full, and most tables seemed to be booked (not fully occupied), but at the end of our dinner the tables were not fully occupied. I wonder if people made reservations, but never turned up, or gave up trying to dine here as they could not get a place to park (although, there's ample parking which just needed to walk a little further). Anyhow, I digress.

We were given a table next to the beach. It was a little warm, but daddy managed to get the fan (stuck to the pillar) turned on.

Our little family photo
The waitress could recognise us, and took our order. We wanted so many things, but our tummies could only fit so much.. sigh
Nice cool beer to start the meal
So here's what we ordered:
Squid in salted eggs
Steamed tiger prawns
Satay
(and the spring chicken at the back.. I forgot to take a photo of it by itself)
Steamed fish
..and added beehoon and bean sprouts
There was also the spinach in broth, which I also missed out to photograph as I was busy dishing them out into smaller portions for everyone.
And we almost finished everything as you can see from the photo. We only packed some satay and spring chicken.
Empty plates!
And here's a final photo of the restaurant before we bid our goodbyes!
Oh by the way, of course Mei-mei had to have photos of her at the beach this evening too:

Dinner in Ipoh

Since we went for Cheng Beng after the actual date, the graveyard was relatively empty. As usual, we had started late so it got very hot while we were there.
Then we all hopped into our cars and headed to the Nirvana columbarium. It was a relatively long drive. And to our surprise there was quite a crowd there. At least it wasn't hot there, so we didn't need to rush.
Then we all headed to have lunch.
Rested for the day, then on to Tong Hoi for dinner.
Family Wefie
Tonight's dinner

Ipoh for Cheng Beng

The two of you had headed back to Ipoh yesterday afternoon, after Mei-mei got back from school. Ko-ko decided to leave a day earlier than to leave early in the morning with us. Well, you both had nice things to do: Ko-ko meeting up with his friend while Mei-mei getting to eat dinner (yummy ngar choy kai) with the Ipoh family. I'm glad that we have Ko-ko to drive the car and even make long distance trips.

As for us, we planned to leave the house as early as 6m, but in the end, we left around 6.30am. Not too bad still. Traffic was good and we arrived in the house in good time. Here's the morning photos I took on the highway:

Great Gatsby Party

We received an invitation from Uncle Sin Chuan to join in his company's annual dinner this year. One week before the party, daddy and I realised that it was themed. It was "The Great Gatsby". Oh dear... so we quickly placed an order online for some stuff which thankfully arrived on time.

I had on magnetic eyelashes, which daddy had helped me put on.. we tried MANY times to finally get them to stick properly and not look too wonky. How do I survive without this man....?

Then the 4 of us hopped into daddy's car and headed to Marriott Hotel for the part. We started off with pre-dinner cocktails then headed into the event hall.

Our wefie at the cocktail reception
Soon, dinner was served. In between, we were entertained by the staff of the company, heard speeches from the bosses, watched the videos of the employees presenting their breakthrough.
Tou-tou was so tickled when daddy put his hat on her
Ah Kong also looked so stylo in the hat
Tou-tou had too much to drink that she was shrieking when they brought her to the restrooms. In the end, Uncle Sin Tien and family had to call it a night slightly earlier, just as the party was winding down.

We also had to leave earlier as we had an early start of the next day.

Birthday Celebration

It sure took you a long time before deciding on the dinner venue. In the end, you picked Moo Point. It was recommended by Aunty Amy. You were initially not too keen, telling her that your daddy cooks a mean steak, hard to match.

But in the end, you picked this location. So I made the booking. Luckily we managed to get a table at 7.15pm.

The menu is very limited. But they also have some daily specials. So these are what we had:
Some deep fried beef tendon
Cauliflower soup
Tomato soup
Beef tartare
Bread with some specialty butter
One of the 2 wine we brough
Prawns
We had 4 types of steaks
Dinner was delicious. We were even given a scoop of complimentary ice-cream each.

Went home feeling very full. Sat a while before taking out the cake. This year's birthday cake is the Carribean which you picked. We had some photos taken before singing the birthday song:

With Mei-mei
With Ah Kong and Ah Ma
The family
And then it's time for the song. No one fights to blow out the candle nowdays. All grown up:

Movie Date

You had asked to go to the cinemas to watch Hoppers. So today, Ah Kong dropped us off at Queensbay Mall after music lessons. We shopped a little, ate lunch, then headed to the cinema:

It's nice spending a "girl's day" with you. We get to chat and gossip together. Let's make sure we do this often.

Went with the two of you to the driving range today. We dropped Evelyn off then headed over for you both to have a go at 100 balls (or was it 200?) each!

Spaghetti Marinara

Kakak had the day off today. Since we didn't want to have to rush her to come back, we decided to cook dinner. It was a last minute decision, so we picked up all the ingredients from Jaya Grocer.
I peeled the prawns while Ko-ko de-veined them.
Such fragrance from the prawns
Frozen scallops
(they shranked significantly after cooking!!)
Taste tester
Dinner is served!!
And then a certain little girl also made tang yuen today:

Home Tech Support

The printer we had bought when Ko-ko was in primary school has finally KO-ed. So daddy and I searched for something suitable (for our needs as well as our pockets). And we finally bought this HP printer. Daddy asked Ko-ko to have it set up and connected to the home network. It's aliveeee... we're all able to print on this printer.
